The Kim and Harold Louie Family Foundation Announces 2008 Louie Scholars

25 outstanding students receive scholarships totaling $100,000

Burlingame, CA (PRWeb) May 22, 2008 — The Kim and Harold Louie Family Foundation announced today that
it has granted scholarships totaling $100,000 to 25 outstanding high school seniors and college students
throughout the United States. The largest individual award for $10,000 went to David Phillips, Lompoc, CA.
David, 18, will be attending Pepperdine University in the fall and plans to major in Pre-Law. Twelve other
students were awarded $5,000 each. The remaining students received scholarships totaling $30,000.

“We received many applications from wonderful and promising students. Choosing scholarship recipients this
year was extremely difficult, but we believe each of our 2008 Louie Scholars represent someone with the most
potential to make a significant impact in the lives of others. We are also proud that our 2008 Louie Scholars
come from diverse genders, racial backgrounds, economic circumstances and geography,” said Betty B. Louie,

chosen for their demonstrated leadership, scholastic achievement, involvement in their respective communities,
financial need and the ability to overcome adversity. Extra consideration was also given to the children of U.S.
veterans and students with special needs.

The Kim and Harold Louie Family Foundation Announces 2007 Louie Scholars

31 Outstanding Students Receive Scholarships Totaling $100,000

The Kim and Harold Louie Family Foundation, a private, family foundation based in
Burlingame, CA, announced today that it has awarded a total of $100,000 to 31 outstanding high
school seniors and college students nationwide. The 2007 Louie Scholars were chosen for their
demonstrated leadership, scholastic achievement, involvement in their respective communities,
financial need and their ability to overcome adversity. The 2007 Louie Scholars come from
diverse racial backgrounds, economic circumstances, gender and geography.

it has granted scholarships totaling $100,000 to 31 outstanding high school seniors and college students
throughout the United States. The largest individual awards for $10,000 each went to Allison Manderfield and
Thuy Nguyen. Allison, 18, will be attending the University of California at Davis in the fall and plans to major in
Life Science. Thuy, 17, will be attending Stanford University in the fall and plans to major in the Biological
Sciences. Seven other students were awarded $5,000 each. Twenty-two other students received scholarships
totaling $45,000.

“Each of our 2007 Louie Scholars represents the candidate with the most promise to make a difference in the
lives of others in their respective communities, and our 2007 Louie Scholars come from diverse racial
backgrounds, economic circumstances, gender and geography,” said Betty B. Louie, The Kim and Harold Louie

“We were thrilled with the high caliber of students who applied for scholarships this year,” said Ms. Louie. “The
selection process was difficult. We received many applications for scholarships this year and found it extremely
difficult to choose the winners from the many well-qualified applicants.”
